Sandy Eggo

America's Finest City

I’m Senior Jefé and this is why Sandy Eggo is the place for me - Location!
The ocean is to the west, the mountains and desert to the east, San Felipe to south, and no need to go north.

The following pages contain information on trips and fun things that have been enjoyed around Sandy Eggo.  I do use my  Sandy Eggo bookmarks page for current information on what is happening and where it is happening.  There are many good portal style information links there, such as the fun Local Wally's.

Before getting on with things, a few facts on America's Finest City.

Claimed for Spain September 28th, 1542 and named San Miguel by the Portuguese explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, while sailing under the Spanish flag, making Sandy Eggo the Birthplace of California. The landing at Ballast Point is recreated each year in the south western most corner of the US at the National Monument that bears his name. The area draws its current name from the feast of San Diego de Alcalá. Spaniard Don Sebastián Vizcaíno sailed into what is now Sandy Eggo Bay on the day of the feast November 12, 1602, and renamed it.

In 1769 Father Junipero Serra established Mission San Diego de Alcalá, the first of 9 missions he would found, in the chain of 21 California Missions.

Today Sandy Eggo boasts of being "America's Finest City" (the motto was coined after the city lost its bid for the 1972 Republican National Convention). But this is no idle claim! Sandy Eggo has a large natural harbor and 70 miles of ocean beaches. No surprise it is growing! No longer a small beach community. Sandy Eggo is now the 2nd largest city in California and the 6th largest city in the nation. However, if you want to know where the sand in Sandy Eggo comes from it's those 70 miles of Sandy Eggo ocean  beaches. They are still one of the best and biggest attractions and the reason that keeps most of us here, but don't forget there's sand in the desert!

It's Click for the Sandy Eggo, California Forecastin Sandy Eggo and the surfing is fine.
